Homemade outhouses roll down Smoketree Avenue for the Pioneer Days Outhouse Races on Friday, October 16, at 6 p.m. Teams push or pull their entries along an approximately 250-foot course beside Freedom Plaza, between Tumbleweed Drive and Paseo de Mara. Two outhouses race in each heat, down and back, with the winner advancing.
Each team has up to five people, with one rider staying inside the outhouse throughout the race. The structures need four sides, a roof, a doorway, an attached seat with a hole and a roll of toilet paper. Motors and pedals aren't allowed.
Spectator admission is free. Registered teams check in at the starting line at 5:30 p.m. The October 9 registration deadline has passed. Racers must be at least 13; those ages 13–17 need a parent or guardian’s signed waiver and presence at the races.
