The Joy of Gardening with Desert Native Plants

Botanist Robin Kobaly leads The Joy of Gardening with Desert Native Plants on Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The morning moves from a presentation to hands-on planting, then a guided walk identifying native plants. Begin at Harrison House, 6881 Mount Lassen Avenue in Joshua Tree, for the 9–11 a.m. presentation. Kobaly covers getting to know desert natives, choosing plants for the environment, soils, irrigation, maintenance and pruning trees. From 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the planting demonstration and practicum take place at Joshua Tree Arts & Ecology Center, 6836 Mount Lassen Avenue. The final walk runs from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. inside Joshua Tree National Park’s border at the end of the street. Kobaly’s work with The Power of Plants centers on southwestern native plants and water-wise landscaping. This single ticket covers the full program.
