Pickleball Arrives in Yucca Valley, Community Welcome
Yucca Valley finally has the courts. Eight of them, behind the Community Center, with new lights over the lines and shade over the bench. What the courts don't hand you is a way in. Play here runs on a key, and to get yours you need to show up midweek.

What's out there
The courts share a campus with Town Hall and the Hi-Desert Nature Museum, just off Twentynine Palms Highway, and they are the first finished piece of a much bigger plan for the Community Center's athletic grounds. Construction started in October 2025 and was substantially done by the end of August. The ribbon was cut weeks before the town threw the public party on October 3, but still many people don't know about this brand new amenity.
Here is what the first phase bought: eight dedicated courts with the nets already up, LED lighting over the courts and the parking lot, a shade structure with seating, a bigger lot, and a fresh coat of stripes on the old one. Along the way the basketball court got resurfaced and a patch of artificial turf went in.
Getting the key
Call Recreation at (760) 369-7211 before you go anywhere. The key comes through the town and that line can tell you which counter is handing keys out, what one costs and how long it lasts. Ask one more thing while you have them: what hours the courts and the lights keep. If you're visiting rather than living here, ask whether the key is open to you, too.
That is the whole catch. Just plan ahead and be prepared to play.
What's still in store
Eight courts is the opening move. The town's master plan for the site runs in four phases: a plaza and prefabricated restrooms, then six more courts for fourteen in all, then a ground-up rebuild of the basketball court, which for now has only been resurfaced. The skatepark's future is still being weighed. Read all of that as the direction the town has drawn, not a construction calendar.
This marks are exciting new chapter for Yucca Valley with sports, wellness and recreation at the forefront. The aquatic center is well underway and we'll have more updates on that project soon. If you haven't played pickleball before, maybe this is your sign.
